The Truckers Association of South Africa (TASA) is an industry body that advocates for trucking operators in South Africa. Its members consist of logistics companies, transport industry associations, and businesses with expertise in freight, maritime, and aviation technology.
TASA was established to promote transformation within the trucking sector, enabling marginalized groups such as distressed truckers, emerging truckers from disadvantaged backgrounds, women, and black truck owners to thrive in the industry.
Our Mission
Our mission is to advocate for the aspirations and socio-economic development of men and women in the transport industry. We aim to support, empower, connect, and promote opportunities for business growth.
The history of legalized and institutionalized injustice in South Africa, based on factors like race and gender, has had lasting social consequences. These consequences continue to hinder equal access to fundamental rights and freedoms, particularly in the transport industry, where men and women face unequal access to economic and productive resources.
Our Objective
The Association’s main objective is to encourage men and women to enter and succeed in the transport industry through:
* Facilitating enterprise development;
* Networking and supporting men and women for success and growth Negotiating on behalf of members for wealth generation;
* Lobbying and advocating for a policy environment that will support and enable the sustainability of men and women enterprises.
Positioning Statement
TASA has positioned itself as a network because it is recruiting men and women enterprise entities/groups as members and coordinate’s them in the umbrella body (TASA)
TASA delivers direct services to members in exchange for subscription payments and other fees. The main purpose is to ensure the sustainability ofTASA, which advances government’s agenda by empowering men and women within the transport industry.
TASA collaborates with other men and women enterprise development offerings within and outside the department, to facilitate the availability of development products and improve the socioeconomic situation of women.
TASA’s is complimenting other men and women enterprise development services to bridge the divide amongst organizations
About the Founder
TASA President Mary Phadi, is the Director of Basadi Peniel Trading t/a Basadi Logistics. She started her formal business in December 2006. In just a years, propelled by her passion for business. Her business acumen is armed with both formal education and hands on practical experience.
In addition to being the President of TASA, a forum established by Truckers throughout the country, Mary is representing the Freight Industry in the SADC Region, she is also sitting in the 2019/2021 Women in Transport Award as a Judge. She is the former Spokesperson of the Coal Transporters Forum, the former Member of the Sector Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Charter Council and the former National Chairperson of the Women in Transport (SANWIT).
In March 2016 Mary was selected as a delegate at Goldman Sachs- GIBS 10 000 Women Certificate Programme. She was chosen as a finalist on the Programme. She won an award of being the top 5 students in the programme.
Mary’s many achievements include being named a finalist in the Mpumalanga FNB Businesswoman of the Year competition in 2008.
